New year – new raw materials
IMCD New Zealand Ltd has recently paired up with new suppliers to bring some new raw materials to the New Zealand winery sector.
The addition of Millipore membrane filters and cartridges from USA and Clear + Stable Cellulose from Dow Chemical, rounds off an extensive portfolio of processing aids and raw materials for New Zealand wineries.
Millipore supplies wineries worldwide with microbial management solutions. The company’s products for clarification, pre-sterile and sterile filtration will ensure microbial stability while maintaining quality, clarity, flavour and aroma.
A full range of products including those for filtration and microbial monitoring at bottling, and throughout the winery are available. IMCD offer Cellustak 12” discs, Millistak+ 16” Lenticular cartridges and Vitapore II, Bevigard and Clarigard 10”, 20” and 30” pre-filters and membrane filter cartridges.
Clear & Stable is a new product offering from Dow and is a water-soluble polymer derived from cellulose. It prevents tartaric salt crystal formation in your wine, just as effectively as cold stabilisation. The product is a water-soluble macro-molecule that has the ability to trap tartaric acid and prevent it from crystallising over time.
Studies have shown the efficacy of CMC over other processes. It helps with the three main hurdles in preventing crystallisation – cost, high energy usage and time.
The OIV (Institute of Vine and Wine) admitted use of cellulose gums in white and sparkling wine to stabilise against formation of tartaric crystals with a quantitative limit of 100mg/l. This product has now gained approval by FSANZ, says IMCD New Zealand.
Also available are Pialite Perlite from Indonesia, Rohavin Enzymes from AB Enzymes, Dicalite Diatomaceous Earth from USA and Ekwip Filter Sheets from Australia.
